Born in Corona, California, the Fender American Performer Precision Bass delivers a selection of great appointments that make for an instrument that'll truly inspire, with a sound and feel that only an authentic Fender can deliver.
At its core, the American Performer P Bass doesn't stray too far from its roots, with an alder body married to a maple neck that is topped with a maple fingerboard. Contemporary players will be pleased to hear that Fender have added some modern appointments that aid playability, with its Modern C profile neck, a 9.5" radius fingerboard and 20 jumbo frets.
Fender have been generous on the pickup front, with the American Performer P Bass coming loaded with the classic split-coil pickup being joined by a Jazz Bass pickup at the bridge, allowing for a wider range of tones than that of a traditional P Bass. The pickups themselves are Fender's Yosemite models that have been designed to deliver those much loved sounds with plenty of richness and dynamic qualities. Flat-staggered pole pieces feature, allowing for an increased output whilst the shellac potting allows the coils to breathe and control unwanted feedback.
When it comes to controls, it's a simple Volume, Volume, master Tone control setup. In addition, Fender installed the GreaseBucket tone circuit, which that lets you shape your highs without adding bass, great for preserving your fundamental sound.
Other features include the 4-saddle vintage style bridge with steel saddle, the Fender lightweight tuning machines and a 3-ply pickguard. The package comes complete with a deluxe gig bag.
The American Performer Precision Bass is a great opportunity to get access to an American made instrument that delivers classic looks, a versatile tonal selection (thanks to its PJ pickup configuration) and some great player-oriented appointments, all whilst being an wallet friendly instrument.
