The TAMA HC82W Roadpro Straight Cymbal Stand is the kind of hardware you buy when you want to stop worrying about your gear and actually focus on playing.
It is built with a heavy-duty 28.6mm diameter base section that provides a massive amount of stability, which is exactly what you need if you are mounting heavy alloys or playing on a stage that tends to vibrate. Weighing in at 4.2kg, it is clearly a bit of a beast, but that weight translates directly into a stand that simply will not budge, no matter how hard you hit.
One of the smartest bits of engineering here is the Quick-Set Tilter. Instead of the usual toothed gears that limit where you can position your cymbal, this system uses the friction of six smooth metal plates. It relies on basic physics to hold its position at any angle you choose, giving you total freedom of movement while being significantly more durable than a standard tilter.
This is paired with the Glide-Tite Grip Joint, which uses metal-to-metal contact to create a solid anchor. By isolating the cymbal and preventing the stand from wobbling along with the instrument, you get the maximum natural resonance out of your bronze.
Setup and teardown are handled by the Quick-Set Cymbal Mate. You just squeeze the two buttons on the side to slide the nut on or off, saving you from that tedious spinning at the end of a long set. If you are fussy about your cymbal’s swing, you can still rotate it like a traditional wing nut to dial in the perfect tension.
The double braced legs move smoothly thanks to nylon washers in the joints, which also help stop any annoying metal-on-metal rattles that might show up during a recording session.
To make sure the stand stays in your kit for years, TAMA included a reversible cymbal bottom. It keeps the centre hole of your cymbal safe from the metal threads, and if one side of the nylon sleeve eventually wears through, you can just flip it over and keep going.
With a height range that reaches up to 1,610mm, this stand offers plenty of overhead for almost any setup.
