The Fender Tim Armstrong Hellcat Electro Acoustic Guitar - Checkerboard is based the Fender acoustic owned by Tim Armstrong, producer, indie-label owner, and most famously, grammy-winning founder of the U.S punk band 'Rancid'.
Fender Tim Armstrong Hellcat Checkerboard Body & Tonewood
As with the rest of Tim Armstrong's lineup of Fender Artist electro acoustic guitars, the Checkerboard version is designed with a concert body style, making it small, lightweight and comfortable to play for longer periods of time.
Scalloped 'X' bracing helps to lessen the mass of this guitar even further, allowing the soundboard to vibrate more freely and enhance the guitars natural acoustic voice.
Unlike the solid-mahogany Fender Tim Armstrong Hellcat guitars, the Hellcat Checkerboard Electro Acoustic Guitar features a solid spruce top (but like it's siblings, it does still have mahogany back and sides). This choice of tonewood creates a sound that is resonant and bright with a wide dynamic range, suited to both soft fingerpicking and heavy strumming.
The rest of the guitar build is made up from a maple neck with satin finish, a 20-fret fretboard with 'Hellcat' logo and double skull inlays, and a walnut bridge with a compensated Graph Tech Nubone saddle.
The Electronics
The Fender Tim Armstrong Hellcat Electro Acoustic Guitar - Checkerboard features Fishman CD electronics, including a Fishman CD pickup system with active preamp, tuner, volume and tone controls. This choice of electronics should aid in preserving the authentic character of the instrument when you're plugged into an amp, minimising any quacky feedback.
