The Phil Jones Bass Compact 9 (C9) is an elite, high-performance bass loudspeaker cabinet built for players who demand power, tonal purity, and low-frequency punch.
Advanced Driver Technology & Materials
Developed as an evolution of the popular 9B cabinet, the C9 represents three years of intensive research and development, resulting in the cutting-edge Chrome Dome 5A driver system.
It is engineered specifically for modern bassists, particularly those who use extended-range 5- or 6-string instruments and require a cabinet that can handle the extreme dynamics of an open B string without distorting.
The heart of the C9 lies in its nine 5-inch proprietary Chrome Dome 5A ferrite drivers.
Phil Jones Bass upgraded the ferrite magnet system using a high-flux magnetic material, providing a warm, punchy alternative for players who prefer the tonal characteristics of ferrite over neodymium.
The driver cones are crafted from a lightweight, ultra-stiff blend of natural wood and carbon fibres, capped with a hardened 6061-T6 aluminium alloy dust cap that functions like a metal tweeter for crystal-clear high frequencies.
Inside, a single-layer, copper-clad aluminium edge-wound ribbon voice coil sits on a high-temperature DuPont Kapton former capable of withstanding up to 800°F.
This advanced configuration allows each single 5-inch speaker to efficiently manage an astonishing 100 watts of power.
Acoustic Optimisation & Road-Ready Build
The C9 enclosure is constructed from premium Baltic birch plywood, a material chosen for its superior strength-to-weight ratio, and features extensive internal bracing for maximum structural rigidity.
PJB utilises computer-optimised acoustic loading to maximise bass output while minimising unnecessary cone movement, resulting in a system tuned precisely down to the lowest sub-bass frequencies.
The cabinet's exterior is wrapped in a heavy-duty, thick Tolex-style covering and reinforced with heavy-duty chromed metal corners.
For effortless transport over rough surfaces like parking lots, the integrated wheels are equipped with premium double-roller bearings.
