Lag Bluewave vs HyVibe

Quick Overview

Lag Bluewave vs Hyvibe. How do you pick the best Lag smart guitar for you? In this article, we break down each series and compare the build and specs to help you to decide which is the best guitar for you.

Lag's 'Smart Guitar' Electro Acoustic ranges

Both the Lag Bluewave and Lag Hyvibe are key members of Lag's electro acoustic 'smart guitar' lineup.

While this may make them similar, at least in terms of overall design and quality, there are some key differences to consider, from their builds, features, tonewoods and more.

Generally, you can expect the Hyvibe range to be the more premium range of the two, and this is reflected in the price.

If you're after the highest quality tonewoods and the most advanced electronic features, this guitar is certainly your better option.

However, if you're a bit more budget conscious but still after a beautiful, great sounding guitar, the Lag Bluewave series might be the choice for you.

Let's delve into each range and their specific features!

Choosing the right build

Let's start with the build. Lag offer beautifully crafted guitars that provide great sound and play superbly in their own right. Especially for their price point!

These have become a shop favourite, and I'm sure if and when you pick one up, you'll say the same.

Lag Hyvibe Body Shapes & Tonewood

The Lag Hyvibe H2 series offers multiple shape variations, including dreadnought, auditorium, and jumbo - and all feature a cutaway design, guaranteeing easier access to the lower frets.

So, there's bound to be a guitar in the lineup that suits your playing style!

With three sub-ranges within the series - the Hyvibe 10, Hyvibe 30 and Hyvibe 50 - specs and build features vary.

The Hyvibe 10 series features a solid cedar top with a smooth satin finish, offering a warm and articulate tone.

The Hyvibe 30 series, however, opt for a solid Engelmann Bearclaw spruce top, focussing more on power and projection.

Finally, the Hyvibe 50 series pairs a premium Macassar ebony back and sides with a solid Engelmann top for a sound that is as deep as it is resonant.

Lag Bluewave Body Shapes & Tonewood

The Lag Bluewave comes in two variants.

Players can choose between a solid spruce top with a Khaya back and sides, or Santos rosewood if you want to bridge the gap a little closer to the premium bigger brother.

Both of these guitars we're talking about today come with a modern twist. Turn on the slick smart Lag preamp system, and you will have a host of treats at your fingertips.

Lag HyVibe

The HyVibe H2 system features a bespoke preamp that comprises a plethora of effects, loopers, metronomes, Bluetooth streaming, EQ, etc, all amplified through the inbuilt speaker.

The interface boasts a vibrant colour screen and user-friendly interface, featuring shortcut buttons for instant access to favoured settings and ease of control during performances.

With the dynamic effects library, you're able to create customised soundscapes with built in effects such as reverb, delay, chorus, octaver, tremolo and distortion.

No need for amps, cables, or power. Rock up, turn on and play away.

Lag Bluewave

Let's talk about the BlueWave! Available in series 1 & 2, this range offers a huge choice of woods, finishes and sizes.

The preamp system on the BlueWave is a little simpler, but that does not mean it doesn't carry its weight! With a combination of an undersaddle piezo and a microphone, the sound alone is unmatched by anything at this price point.

Now let's talk effects! That's right, the Bluewave features built-in reverb & echo, just like its bigger brother, the ‘Hyvibe’.

Now I know what you're thinking... 'but the sound guy can add that in post'. No, no!

The BlueWave features an inbuilt speaker, so your effects are produced live.

A simple press of the power button will activate it just as it would feel and sound like through an amp. Turn your front room into the best-sounding theatre or stage you've ever played in!

Lastly, the inbuilt speaker also connects via Bluetooth to your phone, tablet or any audio source. S,o backing tracks, Spotify, Apple Music etcetera all work, allowing you to play along without the worry of setting anything up.

Price & Value

Both guitars showcase Lag’s commitment to innovation, offering a plethora of features.

As we said before, the Bluewave series is a better choice if you're prioritising affordability, but the Hyvibe H2 series is the ultimate choice for those looking for an advanced electronics system with a greater multitude of effects and features, as well as a slightly more premium build.
